It’s a sunny Saturday afternoon, you’ve escaped the city for the day, and you’re sitting in a vineyard courtyard with a glass of Riesling in hand. Sounds dreamy, right? The problem is that many visitors and expats assume booking a Germany wine tasting is complicated. The good news though is that it doesn’t have to be! Whether you’re stationed in Germany, visiting Europe on vacation, or simply looking for a unique weekend adventure, Germany is home to incredible wine experiences that are much easier to access than you might think. With the right resources, you can skip the endless Google searches and start planning your next sip-worthy adventure in just a few clicks.
How to Book an Authentic Germany Wine Tasting in English

Why Wine Tasting in Germany Is Different Than You Might Expect
When people think of wine tourism, France and Italy usually steal the spotlight. But Germany is one of Europe’s most underrated wine destinations. Home to 13 wine regions, Germany offers everything from medieval wine villages to castle wineries and family-run estates that have been making wine for generations.
One of the things we love most about wine tasting in Germany is how personal it feels. Many wineries are still family-owned, which means there’s a good chance you’ll be tasting wines poured by the winemaker themselves. That said, there are a few things that can surprise first-time visitors:
- Not every winery accepts walk-ins.
- Many tastings require advance reservations.
- Some winery websites are only available in German.
- The best hidden gems often aren’t listed on major travel sites.
- English-speaking experiences can be difficult to find without local recommendations.
That’s exactly why we created Really Grape! We’re here to make discovering and booking wine experiences throughout Europe easier for English-speaking wine lovers.

What to Look for When Choosing a Germany Wine Tasting
Not all wine tastings are created equal. Here are a few things to consider when choosing your experience:
For Couples
Look for vineyard walks, sunset tastings, picnic experiences, or wineries with beautiful outdoor patios. Many wineries throughout Germany offer romantic settings that feel worlds away from the busy tourist crowds.
For Families
Yes, wine tasting can absolutely be family-friendly. Many German wineries have large courtyards with outdoor spaces and relaxed environments where children are welcome.
For Food Lovers
Seek out wineries with on-site restaurants or tasting experiences that include food pairings. German wine and food pairings are often one of the most overlooked parts of the wine culture here.
Three Germany Wine Tastings We Recommend
Need a place to start? Here are three of our favorite experiences.
Schloss Janson
Located about 30 minutes from Ramstein, Schloss Janson is one of our favorite recommendations for first-time visitors.
The winery’s winemaker, Sarah, is originally from New York, making this an excellent option for anyone nervous about language barriers. She does a fantastic job explaining German grape varieties and helping guests understand how they compare to wines they may already know.
The setting doesn’t hurt either. A castle courtyard, welcoming atmosphere, and approachable wines make this an easy recommendation for families, couples, and complete beginners alike.
Weingut Riffel
Tucked away in Rheinhessen, Weingut Riffel has become a favorite among our Sippers Club members.
Their Rosengarten Riesling is a fantastic introduction to one of Germany’s most misunderstood wine categories: Feinherb. If you’ve ever found dry wines too sharp but sweet wines too sugary, Feinherb sits beautifully in the middle. Think balanced, refreshing, and incredibly easy to drink on a sunny afternoon. In other words, the ultimate patio pour.
Weingut Trautwein
Most visitors know Baden for its thermal spas and Europa-Park. Wine lovers know it’s also home to some of the best wines in Germany. Weingut Trautwein is the kind of place you’d only discover through a local recommendation. One of our favorite experiences is their vineyard walk, where guests explore the vineyards with a picnic basket and wine in hand. It’s relaxed, beautiful, and perfect for couples, girls’ weekends, or anyone looking to slow down and enjoy the scenery.
